San Francisco

San Francisco, California, was particularly active in erecting statues depicting its early white settlers at the turn of the twentieth century. Some were intended as temporary displays at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE), but others were designed as permanent monuments. All explicitly celebrated Euro-American cultural dominance.
